Cancun Beach Breakdown
The Cancun beach runs 22.5 kms long and is in the shape of the number seven. The entire beach is public and free to walk but the facilities at the resorts are restricted to guests only. The top of the 7 is referred to as Bahia de Mujeres and has little to no surf and good for swimming with shallow waters that stretch quite a far distance. On the right side of the 7 you have the Caribbean Sea and on the left side is the Nichupte Lagoon. The lagoon side is not for swimming but water sports and jungle tours.

At Playa Las Perlas you can catch the ferry to Isla Muejers and the dock for marine tours. Playa Chac Mool is across from Senor Frogs, right in the thick of the party zone. The view from all the beaches is stunning and the white sands remain cool regardless of how hot the temperature can rise. Always be careful of the under currents because they can be dangerous, even for the most experienced swimmers.
Flags are put in place to warn beach goers of the current water conditions and always pay attention to the lifeguards on duty as they’ll direct you if you’re in an unsafe area.
Flag Colour Coding System:
White – Excellent
Green – Safe
Yellow – Caution
Black or Red –Unsafe
Some of the areas on the most southern tip are only accessible by walking so they are rarely busy and do have an air of exclusivity to them. Regardless of where you are on the beach there really is no bad location. Your view, after all, is the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean Sea.
